Columba Cottage children, parents and staff paid their respects by marching at the Port Macquarie ANZAC Day March this week, and then attended the Commemoration service at the War Memorial at the corner of Clarence & Horton Streets.

Pictured below is Havarna with a picture of her Great Great Grandfather who fought in World War I and fought with the 1st light horse regiment. He was born in July 1888.

Also pictured below is Matthew who marched. He’s holding a photo of his great, great grandfather – one of 15 brothers, all of whom went to fight and returned from the war. He was an aboriginal man named Richard Martin – Trooper 2nd Lighthorse  which included men from Grafton, Lismore and Tweed heads. He fought from 1916 to 1919 in Egypt and the Battle of Beersheba.
