Our Bilby Room leader for 2019 is Bec!
Bec moved to Port Macquarie 11 years ago from Brisbane where she had worked in early childhood education for four years. Bec has now been working with Columba Cottage for almost three years. When she isn’t at the Cottage, Bec loves Crossfit and watching her kids play sport.
This year Bec has taken a step out of the babies’ room where she has spent the last two years and looks forward to the new opportunities that the toddler area brings.
“There are a lot of new things for me this year. I haven’t been a part of STEAM yet so I am looking forward to seeing how that goes and the children enjoying it,” says Bec.
In addition to the STEAM program that integrates movement into our friends’ learning about technology, colours, numbers and design, the Bilby room under Bec’s guidance will run focused groups throughout the year.
“Every couple of months we rotate through different developmental focuses. First up we are focusing on gross motor skills as well as language, literacy, early writing skills and any interests our friends bring to the room,” says Bec.
While there are many exciting opportunities for the energetic and busy Bilby room, Bec’s main goal for 2019 is to have a happy year.
“We just want everyone to be happy to come to the Bilby room. We want to make sure that all children feel safe and secure with all the educators throughout the year. We just want to have a really fun year.”
